What is Pilates and

what will it do for me?

Pilates is a system of exercise designed to train the body from the inside out. Pilates based exercises develop strength, stamina, stability, flexibility, and balance beginning from the “powerhouse” core muscles and working to the extremities. Pilates training emphasizes the mind-body connection and whole-body health. Specialized equipment is used for exercises that can be as strenuous or gentle as required. Benefits from Pilates include increasing core strength, muscle tone and mass; improving functional range of motion; increasing lung capacity and circulation; improving bone density and bone health; and correcting posture and muscle imbalances. Practical applications of Pilates include improving mental and physical coordination, enhancing sports performance, supporting the aging process, and rehabilitating the body from injury and/or surgery.

About me

HILLARY-R4-040-18A.jpg

Hi,

I’m Lisa!

I became a Pilates instructor after having a few previous professional incarnations; I was a modern dance performer and teacher, a fashion industry executive, and a textile designer. I love to move my body and I am particularly fond of playing golf, skiing, tennis, cycling, and swimming.

Having said that, I also like to be still; I have been practicing yoga and meditating for decades. I appreciate the special balance Pilates and meditation bring to life and have started Mind the Body to help others experience the same.

Movement + Stillness = Mind the Body

“I've been working with Lisa for 2 years on the recommendation of my Physical Therapist. I suffer from chronic lower back pain and Pilates has helped me improve my condition more than any procedure or physical therapy I've done. Lisa is very careful when it comes to my pain; she gives me a heads up if she thinks something might not feel good for me, and if it hurts, she always has an adjustment or alternative exercise for me to do instead. Lisa always has a plan for our sessions, rarely repeating the same exercise in consecutive sessions and helping me advance in strength and flexibility. Working with Lisa is a pleasure!”
